Fidia: a new department for the production of biological medicinal products and a training center for specialist training
Today, Fidia Farmaceutici has inaugurated a new department dedicated to the production of biological medicinal products and a training center that will be dedicated to the specialised training of doctors and surgeons at its headquarters in Abano Terme.
New department for the production of biological drugs
The production department, a part of a broader industrial development plan, represents a strategic asset for the Group, destined to expand its production capacity and strengthen its positioning in the global pharmaceutical sector. With a total surface area of 3500m2 distributed over several floors, the new department was created with a total investment of approximately 50 million euros, further confirming Fidia Farmaceutici’s commitment to innovation of production processes and industrial efficiency.
The new site can be dedicated to the production of biological medicinal products, such as enzymes, hormones, blood products, monoclonal antibodies, serums, vaccines and immunoglobulins, which are increasingly crucial in responding to advanced therapeutic needs.
The new production hub, representing the state of the art of technological innovation applied to pharmaceutical production, is equipped with the most modern automation technologies and is designed according to the highest technological and quality standards, as indicated in the most recent international regulatory requirements for the production of biological medicinal products.
Furthermore, thanks to the adoption of green solutions including the use of liquid nitrogen instead of traditional refrigeration units and the rationalization of the volumes of sterile areas, a reduction in energy consumption of 30% is expected compared to current standards.
The project, designed to be scalable and highly specialised, has already started adding new qualified professional figures, with highly specialised roles that are integrated into the team, strengthening the technical-scientific heritage of the company.
The Training Center for healthcare professionals
Together with the new production department, Fidia has also opened its new Training Center; a modern and highly technological space designed to offer excellent training to healthcare professionals. The centre was created to enhance learning through direct observation of clinical procedures, thanks to the possibility of following live surgery sessions transmitted in real time from one or more operating rooms, equipped with an advanced system of high-definition cameras integrated into the instruments and the surgical table.
The Training Center will be inaugurated by ophthalmology specialists, who will be able to attend the surgical procedures inside a cutting-edge multimedia room, designed to offer an immersive and highly educational experience. In addition, for this first specialist area, an ophthalmic dry lab will also be available, equipped with latest-generation simulators to practice cataract and retinal surgeries: a practical, safe and ethical method that integrates theoretical and observational training with direct experience, in a high-tech context.
The Training Center represents the first step of a broader project, which includes progressive development in additional therapeutic areas, with the aim of creating an increasingly interdisciplinary environment that is in step with the evolution of medical practice, thus creating a cutting-edge training hub in the area that welcomes doctors from all over the world.
This initiative is part of Fidia’s long-term path to reaffirm its concrete commitment alongside doctors, organising an increasing number of major in-house training events (such as the Fidia Academy) and offering innovative tools and opportunities for professional growth in line with the challenges of modern medicine, while also enhancing the local area and its resources.
Numerous authorities were present at the inauguration, including the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, the Mayor of Abano Terme, Federico Barbierato, and the President of East Veneto Confindustria, Paola Carron, confirming the strategic value of the project for the territory and for the entire pharmaceutical sector.
“With these investments, we are strengthening an industrial hub of excellence that combines efficiency, sustainability and innovation, in line with the highest international standards” – stated Carlo Pizzocaro, President and CEO of Fidia Farmaceutici. “This is an important step in our growth path, which confirms our desire to consolidate our authority and competitiveness. We wanted to combine production innovation with a significant investment in training, because we believe that the development of skills is an essential strategic element for facing future challenges and contributing to the growth of scientific and clinical culture worldwide.”
“This project is the result of a journey lasting about six years, involving hundreds of highly specialised professionals and a total investment of over 50 million euros” – added Rossella Pellizzari, Fidia’s Abano Terme Head of Plant – “A concrete commitment to innovation, with the aim of building tomorrow’s production excellence, today.”
